Diego Pinera wurde 1981 in Montevideo, Uruguay geboren. Er studierte Schlagzeug am Berklee College of Music (USA), an der University of Music in Havanna (Cuba) und an der 188ÀºÇò±È·Ö_188±È·ÖÖ±²¥¡ª¼¤ÇéÓ®Ó¯ÖÐ¡Ì f¨¹r Musik und Theater in Leipzig. 2017 wurde er mit dem ECHO Jazz als bester Schlagzeuger national ausgezeichnet mit seinem album "My Picture"feat.Mark Turner und Ben Street. Pineras Begegnungen mit der Musik Lateinamerikas und der Bandbreite des Jazz dienen ihm als k¨¹nstlerischer Filter f¨¹r seine Musik. Sein charakterstarker Personalstil ist gepr?gt durch ein avanciert rhythmisches Spielkonzept, ein Jazz-Sound mit Latin-Touch sowie dem Freiheitsdrang der Improvisation. Musikalische Komplexit?t sowie Virtuosit?t bleiben bei Pinera aber stets subtil, eine besondere Frische und Leichtigkeit durchstr?mt sein k¨¹nstlerisches Schaffen.

Im Anschluss h?ren wir McBride im gemeinsamen Konzert mit dem Henri Jerratsch Trio. Henri Jerratsch, Schlagzeuger der Studienrichtung Jazz am Institut f¨¹r Musik und Initiator des Abends, hatte als Stipendiat der KITABU-Stiftung (Wessels&M¨¹ller) im Jahr 2022 die Gelegenheit, ein Jahr an der University of New Orleans zu verbringen und die Wurzeln der Black American Music zu verinnerlichen.

Unterst¨¹tzt wird McBride auf seinem Konzert neben Henri Jerratsch am Schlagzeug von dem kolumbianischen Gitarristen Maximiliano Valdez und dem K?lner Bassisten Jan Blikslager.

Jesse McBride is an exciting and adventurous pianist and bandleader; the Tulane University professor brings the legacies of jazz fathers Ellis Marsalis and Harold Battiste to his own thoughful and forward-moving piano style and is committed to developing the next generation of jazz musicians. McBride was in Houston; his mother was a band director and his aunt a violinist and conductor. He started playing playing the violin at age four and won numerous competitions. He began on the piano while attending the Houston High School for Performing Arts. In the 1990s he moved to New Orleans to attend the University of New Orleans, where he earned both a BA and a Master of Music.
At UNO, McBride studied jazz piano with Ellis Marsalis and developed a special relationship with the legendary producer, performer and educator Harold Battste. ¡°Mr Batt" encouraged McBride to develop his own personal sound and to continue the tradition of helping younger musicians find their own personal voices.
McBride took up Battiste ¨¬s ¡°Next Generation¡± project and has carried the torch ever since the elder statesman ¨¬s death in 2015. McBride and Next Generation perform around New Orleans, at WWOZ ¨¬s Piano Night, and at festivals, including headlining the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. He is on the Black American Music Studies faculty at Tulane University and teaches masterclasses across the city.

Henri Jerratsch is an upcoming Drummer, Sideman and Bandleader born and raised in northern Germany. Working with a lot of rhythm and blues, soul and jazz artists all over Europe his Jazz Studies at the University of Osnabr¨¹ck lead him to study at the University of New Orleans in 2022. Always inspired by the roots of Black American Music, Jerratsch felt he needed to learn more about the heartbeat, soul and reality of the music he has been playing with Europeans. Seeing and hearing Herlin Riley, Jason Marsalis, Shannon Powell, Johnny Vidacovich, Raymond Webber, Kerry ¡°Fats¡± Hunter (tbc...) night after night made him understand the music on a different level after relaying on records and video footage for a long time. While being at UNO ¨¬s Jazz Program Jerratsch and McBride ¨¬s paths crossed and one year after being back in Germany Henri Jerratsch ¨¬s Trio is more than happy to invite Jesse McBride as a guest on piano for 5 Nights.

The music will be performed by various ensembles of all sizes, from duos over quartets to large ensemble with strings.

The first part of the evening makes it out for the exam of 3 NF composition students, and the 2nd part of the evening will feature the works of the HF and other NF composition students.
