Brief description

In order to deal with scientific topics and specialized texts, knowledge of the English language of science is required. This module activates the English knowledge from school education and deepens it subject-specifically, so that the students can use the English language confidently in the subject context. This module creates the prerequisites to enable the European and worldwide mobility of students and professionals demanded by current reform efforts in vocational education.

Remark on the assessment methods

PFP-1) The Portfolio Examination is worth 100 points and consists of a one-hour written exam (K1) and an oral exam (M). Each item is weighted at 50 points. 

PFP-2) The portfolio exam is 100 points and consists of two 30-minute written exams (K30), one presentation (PR), and one oral exam (M). Each element is weighted at 25 points.

Presentation in the context of the portfolio examination: approx. 8 - 12 minutes.

Successful completion of module B1 or equivalent previous knowledge

Knowledge Broadening

Students have a broad knowledge of English technical terminology. They understand English technical texts.

Knowledge deepening

Students deepen their existing basic vocabulary to include subject-specific terminology in English.

Application and Transfer

Students use techniques and methods to read and make sense of English texts. In doing so, they apply reading and working techniques.

Communication and Cooperation

Students participate in English-language professional discussions and present professional content in English. They communicate content to English-speaking colleagues and patients in a comprehensible manner.

Linkage to other modules

This module promotes the understanding of English-language technical literature. Thus, this module prepares students for all further modules in which English technical literature represents and proves the current state of knowledge. In addition, these competencies promote the internationalization of the students and the program.
