In international businesses human resource management always has an additional level of complexity. In order to handle this successfully it is useful to have an insight in the specific fields and challenges of international human resource management. Moreover, the strategic aspects of international human resource management have to be taken in account in order to be able to understand human resource issues and come to decisions of practical relevance.

Conception of human resource management

- Fields of activity of international human resource management such as:
- Personnel selection in international companies
- International assignments of employees and their (re-)integration
- International incentive structures and performance appraisal
- Leadership and motivation in multinational companies
- Gender related issues of career and talent management.

The total workload for the module is 150 hours (see also "ECTS credit points and grading").

- Remark on the assessment methods
The portfolio exam covers 100 points and consists of a one-hour written examination (K1) and a report (R). The written examination and the report are weighted by 50 points each.
- Exam duration and scope
Written examination: in accordance with the valid study regulations
Report: Presentation: approx. 20-30 minutes with a written report of approx. 5-10 pages.
Written paper: approx. 10 - 15 pages
Portfolio exam: Written examination: in accordance with the valid study regulations; Report: presentation of approx. 15-25 minutes with written report of approx. 4-8 pages

Students who successfully complete this module
- are able to recognize human resources issues particularly within the context of companies operating on an international level.

Students who successfully complete this module are aware of and can discuss a range of practice-relevant methods for dealing with IHRM challenges.

Students who successfully complete this module are able to deal appropriately with the complexity and decisions within international companies. They will be able to reach their own well-founded decisions in IHRM issues e.g. based case studies and for their personal careers.

Students who successfully complete this module apply appropriate methods for dealing with IHRM challenges.

After completing this course, students should be able to:
- Determine the methodologies needed to obtain the required information for a self-selected IHRM topic from the current scholarly discussion.
- Implement the appropriate methodologies in a research project and critically reflect and interpret own results

Students who successfully complete this module are able to:
-develop their own suggestions for dealing with challenges on the basis of suitable methods, and can critically assess and discuss the risks and opportunities involved.
-formulate and communicate fact-based recommendations to solve IHRM problems with special regard of intercultural differences

After completing this course, students should be able to:
- do adequate research in the current IHRM discussion
- reflect the impact of IHRM decisions for employees and own/other careers
- give reasons for recommendations and own preferences with regard to their ethical and moral standards.
