Mission Statement

With the increasing degree of digitization of services, products and business processes, organizations face a number of new challenges in order to stay competitive. This course deals with the major consequences of the digital age and how organizations can survive and benefit from it. A special focus lies on emerging digital technologies, which are examined from a theoretical perspective but also experienced hands-on. The students learn how their future workplace is affected by digitization, acquire necessary tools and create a mindset to be successful in the digital age.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge Broadening
The students know how information is stored and processed by a computer.
The students understand the impact of the increasing digitalization in the businesses context and their private life.

The students can identify use cases for digitalization of services, products, and processes in practice.

The students know a company's major chances and challenges resulting from digitalization.

Instrumental Skills and Competences
The students can conceptualize simple digital applications and implement them with pre-defined devices and software (logic boards, sensors, procedural programming, cloud services).

The students have acquired methods for project planning and project work in small teams and can apply these methods successfully.
Communicative Skills and Competences
The students can grasp the social impact of digitalization and lead an informed discussion about the benefits and risks.

The students have acquired and deepened their capability to precisely present their ideas and results in front a group.
Systemic Skills and Competences
The students can transfer concepts of digitalization to new business contexts.

The students can comprehend the potential threats and benefits of digitalization for a particular company.

The students have learned innovative thinking patterns and can apply them in a business context.

Mode of Delivery

The course follows the flipped classroom concept. Material such as audio, video and literature are provided before each session. The students are expected to prepare for class with the recommended material. The time in class will mainly be used to work in small groups and to deepen the understanding, knowledge, and acquired skills.
