Program structure
Structure of the program
The standard period of study of the Public Management Bachelor’s degree program is a total of six semesters. The degree program comprises five theory semesters and ends with the scientific practical project and the thesis in the sixth semester.
In the first study phase, i.e. in the first two semesters, you will receive a thorough introduction to the subjects Business Administration, Social and Political Sciences and Law. In addition to basic methodology and skills, key qualifications are taught.
The remaining four semesters form the second stage of study. In the third, fourth and fifth semesters, special knowledge for the public sector is conveyed and topics from these areas are application-specifically dealt with. During the course of studies, two block seminars must also be completed.
From the third semester, you can choose two in-depth topics from five in-depth study options, which then allow for a focus subject in the three consecutive semesters. The following five in-depth topics are offered: Personnel, accounting and controlling, marketing, event management, taxes.
Modules
A study semester abroad may be spent in the fourth or fifth semester on a voluntary basis. In organizing the semester, you will be suported by the International Faculty Office (IFO) of the Faculty of Business Management and Social Sciences and the degree program coordinator.
Specializations
From the third semester, students may choose two out of five specializations to focus on invidual subject areas over three subsequent semesters:
- Semester 3: Human Resource Marketing and Development in the Public Sector (module 1)
- Semester 4: Leadership and Performance Management (module 2)
- Semester 5: Case Studies in Labour Law (module 3)
- Semester 3: Budgeting, Financial Planning and New Public Management (module 1)
- Semester 4: Stategic Controlling in Public Institutions and Non-Profit Organizations (module 2)
- Semester 5: Cost Accounting for Public and Non-Profit Organizations (module 3)
- Semester 3: Marketing Research (module 1)
- Semester 4: City Marketing and Tourism (module 2)
- Semester 5: Marketing Project (module 3)
- Semester 3: Principles of Event Management (module 1)
- Semester 4: Event Law (module 2)
- Semester 5: Applied Event Management (module 3)
