Kurzbeschreibung

Companies set themselves individual, sustainable (economic, environmental and social) objectives. Which have to be reviewed on a regular basis to find out if the objectives or the way to achieve them have to be modified. This process became much more complicated due to the increasing dynamics of a company’s environment.

In order to be able to act instead of just react, companies have a closer look on their PERFORMANCE, using performance measurement systems.

Furthermore, RISKs that may endanger reaching the goals have to be identified, evaluated and considered in taking decisions. Early warning systems and risk management systems are therefore implemented.

In order to keep risks as low as possible, the company should have the most resilient structures possible (RESILIENCE).

As such, this module deals with three major aspects: performance, risk and resilience.

Students will receive a thematic and conceptual introduction to the following concepts:

1. Performance and performance measurement systems

2. Risk, risk management systems, and early warning systems

3. Resilience and its significance for managing a company in an increasingly volatile environment

Lehr-Lerninhalte

1. Principles and conceptual basics of resilience

2. Principles and methods of risk management

3. Concepts and strategies for increasing the resilience of a company

Wissensverbreiterung

By completing the module successfully, students will be know how to implement, use, and evaluate the effectiveness of performance measurement systems as well as risk management and early warning systems. They also know about the effectiveness of resilience for a sustainable management control.

Wissensvertiefung

The students learn to apply sustainable and resilient management methods and tools (e.g., risk management for climate adaptation measures).

Wissensverst?ndnis

The students are able to understand complex issues and risks in a professional manner using the example of a company and can interpret them in terms of sustainable development.

Nutzung und Transfer

The students are able to look on performance from diverse perspectives and consider risks in their decision making, e.g. by applying scenarios and supporting resilience.

Wissenschaftliche Innovation

The students gain practice in critically examining performance and implementing suitable methods for performance measurement and for considering risks in taking decisions.

Kommunikation und Kooperation

Through discussing about evaluating risks, interpreting potential scenarios of a company's future, and defining suitable measures, the students improve their communication skills.
