Hoher Besuch am IfM: um 13 Uhr gibt der US-Saxophonist Wayne Escoffery, zusammen mit seinen kongenialen Kollegen, David Kikoski (piano), Ugonna Okegwo (bass) und Mark Whitfield Jr. (drums) seinen musikalischen Erfahrungsschatz im Plektrum, dem Saal im Neubau des IfM, an Studierende und Interessierte Besucher weiter.

Wayne Escoffery is a 2014 & 2021 Downbeat Critics Poll Winner for both the Tenor and Soprano Saxophones, and a Grammy Award winning musician. He is considered one of the Jazz world’s most talented saxophonists and in-demand sidemen. His current working quartet features pianist David Kikoski, bassist Ugonna Okegwo and drummer Mark Whitfield Jr. who has taken over for the late great Ralph Peterson Jr. The band’s 2020 album

The Humble Warrior on the Smoke Sessions Records label has gotten rave reviews and received 4 stars in the June, 2020 issue of Downbeat Magazine. After the passing of drummer Ralph Peterson Jr.

Escoffery chose Peterson’s best student and young drum master Mark Whitfield Jr. for the drum chair of his quartet. The band’s new album “Like Minds” released in the spring of 2023 features Whitfield Jr. on drums in addition to special guests; vocalist Gregory Porter, trumpeter Tom Harrell and guitarist Mike Moreno.
